4 wheel drive is not required during nice weather. The road is a little steep during the final mile, so 4 wheel drive is recommended for inexperienced drivers if it snows or rains.
Please note that there are some steep mountain roads in the final stretch up to the cabin. 4WD is recommended during and after rain or snow.
